Rochester, Minnesota (October 9, 2023) — Delfina announced it has entered into a know-how agreement with Mayo Clinic to create a metabolic health program to support pregnant patients in Delfina Care.

Gestational diabetes is a leading cause of the maternal health crisis, impacting as many as one in five pregnancies. Gestational diabetes is not caused by a lack of insulin but by other hormones produced during pregnancy that can make insulin less effective. Low-income and minority women are more likely to experience diabetes during pregnancy, as well as social barriers to successful diabetes self-management.

“Metabolic complications like gestational diabetes are a leading cause of maternal and infant morbidity,” said Delfina CEO Senan Ebrahim, MD, Ph.D. “Delfina is committed to improving health outcomes for all moms and babies with our products. We are excited to collaborate with Mayo Clinic in service of our mission to build intelligent pregnancy care for all.”

The program enhances Delfina’s existing maternal health platform, Delfina Care, with evidence-based guidance and educational content developed by Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Linda Szymanski, MD, Ph.D., and Delfina Vice President of Data Science Isabel Fulcher, Ph.D., are leading a team to build the new program.

“We look forward to working with Dr. Szymanski, a leading expert on maternal-fetal medicine and exercise physiology, to create a metabolic health program that will support patients with data-driven workflows to improve pregnancy outcomes,” said Dr. Fulcher.
