New Mexico, October 30, 2024—Delfina recently announced its partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) as part of BCBSNM's statewide expanded Special Beginnings® maternal and infant health initiative. This initiative aids moms along their preconception, prenatal, and postpartum journeys.

Through this partnership with Delfina, BCBSNM will leverage advanced technology and data analytics to enhance care delivery, identify high-risk pregnancies early, and ensure that mothers receive the support they deserve throughout their prenatal and postpartum journeys. Key components of the initiative include:

  • Personalized Care Plans: Utilizing Delfina's digital platform to create tailored care plans for expectant mothers, ensuring they receive relevant resources and support.
  • 24/7 Virtual Support: Offering continuous access to healthcare professionals, allowing mothers to seek guidance and assistance whenever needed.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborating with local organizations to educate and engage communities on maternal health issues and available resources.

“Improving maternal and infant health outcomes in underserved and rural communities in our state is a top priority,” said Dr. Latha Raja Shankar, BCBSNM VP of Health Care Delivery and Chief Medical Officer. “Through our renewed focus on maternal and infant health care, we’re excited to collaborate with organizations like Delfina to create better opportunities for healthier, happier mothers and children across New Mexico.”

The Special Beginnings® program focuses on:

  • Implementing quality-based maternal health programs that demonstrate a reduction in preterm and low-birth-weight babies, as well as obstetric and postpartum emergencies;
  • Expanding access to comprehensive health services, including behavioral health care during the preconception, prenatal, and postpartum periods; and
  • Increasing public awareness and community engagement to reduce maternal morbidity, mortality and health disparities, with an emphasis on diversifying and expanding the maternal health workforce.

BCBSNM continues to build on long-standing maternal and infant care programs and relationships with trusted local community organizations, health care providers, and thought leaders, leveraging their knowledge, experience, and talents to increase access to care, reduce care gaps, and educate and engage New Mexicans locally.

"We are grateful and excited to launch our partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. Together, we’re applying Delfina’s innovative technology and BCBSNM’s trusted community presence to deliver high-quality, personalized care that meets the unique needs of mothers and families, empowering them to thrive at every stage of their journey. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide our lifesaving product to Native families, who are disproportionately impacted by the maternal health crisis. Having lived in New Mexico and seen the need firsthand, I am looking forward to serving all New Mexicans with Delfina Care." - Senan Ebrahim, MD, PhD, Founder and CEO of Delfina
