Delfina is thrilled to announce our partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) on the Special Beginnings® Maternal and Infant Health Initiative. The collaboration will bring Delfina Care to moms and families in Illinois. The goal of our partnership with BCBSIL is to measurably improve maternal and infant morbidity and mortality with proactive care powered by our proprietary algorithms and led by our Delfina Doulas. We are grateful for this opportunity to bring lifesaving proactive pregnancy care to Illinois with BCBSIL and other partner organizations across the state.

According to Illinois’ latest maternal mortality review report, 91% of pregnancy-related deaths were preventable. There are also pervasive disparities in maternal health in Illinois, with Black women being twice as likely to die from any pregnancy-related condition as white women. The report suggests that pregnancy care can be bolstered by addressing chronic health conditions like cardiovascular disease and hypertension, obesity, and mental health conditions. BCBSIL's investment of $8 million into community organizations highlights the urgency of improving health outcomes for mothers and infants. At the forefront of this initiative is Delfina’s intelligent doula-led pregnancy care system, designed to empower families and enhance the overall pregnancy experience.
